The ORF BRICS Forum is a Track II initiative that has played a central role in driving the BRICS agenda forward since the inception of the grouping. In recognition of this, the Government of India has extended continuous support to ORF for coordinating the Track II activities. The first of such initiatives was in 2009, when the organisation hosted 20 top scholars from the BRIC countries in New Delhi. In 2012, on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit held in 2012 at New Delhi, ORF organised the Fourth BRICS Academic Forum, an expansive and innovative format for discussion between Track II experts, which has been replicated under every presidency since, and formalised under the aegis of the BRICS Think Tanks Council (BTTC).
